Connect Tutors is a non-profit that partnered with Develop for Good to get help with redesigning their website. I led the wireframing and prototyping.
As a team, we analyzed the current website and had difficulty navigating. The sub-nav categories didn’t make sense (and had no visible hover indication) and we found it hard to find the relevant information, such as how to get involved.
So the challenge became, how might we make information on the Connect Tutors website more accessible and easier to navigate ?

I also liked the idea of having testimonials, a news section, a contact us page and a footer with links to the relevant information.
They were confused about the sign-up process, the exact tutoring services provided and the credibility of the tutors
In addition to the user interviews we did, we also related our college application experiences to help us remember the perspective of the anxious high school student!
We had 1 parent and 2 students: Out of her Depths Olivia, Nervous Newbie Nate and Kind of Knows Kate
Ensuring that the relevant information was easy to find was our #1 priority.
We maintained Connect Tutors’ color palette and chose fonts and icons that would make the website engaging to students & their parents
We made a lot of iterations on the color!
This was my first team working as a product designer on a project and also my first time working in just a team of product designers! Through this experience, I learnt how to go through the entire design process from start to finish and I learnt so much from my team members and their prior design experiences!
This experience also taught me about how to communicate with a client and how to take feedback. As a designer, it was hard for me to separate myself from the design, so this experience taught me how to take feedback from the client not as a criticism of me and my vision, but as constructive feedback that will help serve our end goal of helping the client.
